1. Museu de David
Have you ever wondered where the name David comes from, and why it has endured in popularity? This museum traces the history of people named David, from the Bible all the way to modern times. What's more, if you can prove your name is David, you get in for free. Not bad.
2. The Beach
You absolutely have a wealth of choices -- Miramar, Aguda, Granja - none of them overcrowded or packed with tourists. The beaches in this area of Portugal are all intimate, with golf, cafes, sun and relaxation. Aguda, Granja and Miramar beaches also boast impressive cliffs and fantastic views of historical cities, houses and churches.

A lazy cruise on the sunny Douro River will sate your appetite for both sun and culture. These cruises stop off at famous historical landmarks and sites such as Casa de Mateus and Gardens, the locks and dams created to tame the river, and Salamanca, the UNESCO world heritage city. Remember your sun block and soak in the water, sun and culture.

The industrial region of the city has some of the best local nightlife. Head out to Chic, Act, Bla-Bla, Industria and Mau Mau, to name a few. Drinks are rarely more than 1 euro, the locals are friendly and happy, and the nights are warm. It's a perfect party!
